I'm very excited to present a special Artist's Picks piece for September and October 2024 : Special Edition “Lily & Rose Cottage” . You may remember my original Black and White Lily and Rose Cottage. It was the fifth installment of my 1/144 scale handmade miniature dollhouses from scratch! It was posted and sold back in February of 2022. Every year I try to make at least one 1:144 scale house from scratch. And I really missed this piece. A lot of work went into planning it. The first time around I remember it was very challenging but so much fun to make. I had started researching black and white cottages in different parts of England to get a little inspiration. And then I made my own design plan for each exterior of the house. I also designed a new unique floor plan, and new accent pieces to make the little piece unique from my previous houses. But it had so much potential for variations in design and color. So this time I decided to mix it up a bit and make a special edition piece. In terms of size, it fits in the palm of your hand, and is comparable in height and length to many the 1:144 laser cut homes- measuring approximately 4 1/4inches long x 2 inches wide (+porch 1/4inch) x 3 inches tall. I always prefer larger rooms you can have an easier more enjoyable time decorating. And I'm in love with this tiny floor plan. It's more open and compared to the boxier narrow rooms in other prefabricated lazer cut houses. So there's much more room this time to have fun decorating. Don't forget to take a peek at some of the original tiny details such as the tiny loft, the rounded interior cottage doors with teeny tiny black hinges, the glazed windows, the tiny floral “stained glass window” with a BRAND NEW design (&*hand-painted), and one of my favorite details – the tiny decorative front porch. That was one of the hardest things to recreate with wood because of the size. But I was so thrilled when it was once again completed. I decided this time to make a solid black porch that would make the tiny cottage door pop. The inspiration for this detail came from an actual cottage featured online. You can zoom in and see more details in the pictures. Last but not least are the brightly colored garden boxes. I originally planned on one free-moving flower bed. But that quickly changed to 2…then 3. The idea came together but by bit. As did each flower box. I wanted lots of variety in both textures, materials, and colors. And I wanted to mix some old favorites with some new plants and flowers. I think it all came together very nicely. Too many details to cover them all so I’ll mention just a few more. I love sunflowers! One of the prized gardens in the neighborhood has a gorgeous garden all year around. And one of her prized flowers have always been her giant cheerful sunflowers. Sprinkled in among her various roses and other blossoms, they’ve always brightened up her garden bed. So of course I had to create some for this tiny garden. Each were handmade and hand-painted…from scratch…from the crinkly leaves and stems, to the delicate petals and florets in the center. Challenging YES! But so worth it! And they really are cute from ALL SIDES. ALL THE FLOWER BEDS ARE. I wanted to make it possible to layer them…or angle them anyway the customer would choose and still have something pretty to look at. Bursts of color and tiny bright blossoms on every corner. Even from the back! Zoom in to see all the details for yourself including the garden decorations like the bumble bee, bird bath, the bright climbing vine covered in tiny pink blossoms …and all the other gorgeous plants and flowers. So much time and effort was put into making “Lily&Rose Cottage” Special Edition. I think it absolutely deserves to be one of my Artists Picks Piece for both September and October.
